Bekins (09/26/2006)
I used Bekins to move from New York to Las Vegas in August 2006. The final cost was double their estimate. An expensive lamp was bent during the move, which I did notice until some time after signing the delivery acceptance. Certain wooden furniture items were scratched. I sent the company a letter reporting these facts and asking for an explanation of how the final cost could be double the estimate by telling me the compaints had no merit. The company sent me a response saying my points had not merit, and said nothing further. During the move process, and prior to delivery, Bekins told me that I would need to fax them a credit card authorization for the full amount if I wished to pay be credit card; their driver called me shortly after to insinuate that since they hadn't received it very promptly I was probably trying to "fuck them over." He is an ironic man. The pickup and delivery were reasonably on schedule. However, the pricing practices of the company seem dubious. I would avoid them in the future and warn others away from them.

Speedy Movers are terrible (09/25/2006)
Slow, unreliable, and they put a big hole in my hallway - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Oz Movers - Awful Experience - Boxes Stolen (09/20/2006)
We used Oz Moving & Storage for our move. Somewhere between taking the boxes out of our apartment and bringing them to our new apartment, two boxes were stolen. We believe that during the loading/unloading process, the movers left the moving truck unattended and the boxes were stolen. Oz denies liability for these boxes and furthermore claims that we have grossly overestimated the value of the boxes. They have not in good faith attempted to resolve the dispute, after we even paid for an additional $20,000 of insurance through their company. It's a scheme and they are wholly uncooperative. In short, the boxes were stolen and it was their fault. DO NOT USE THEM!!!

Advantage Movers were very LATE (09/15/2006)
My movers are already one hour and sixteen minutes LATE. I'm tired of this being "acceptable" practice among NYC movers. I used Advantage Movers because they were listed in the Best of Citysearch, so I mistakenly thought they would be on time (give or take 20 minutes for "traffic"). Don't these moving companies know how to estimate arrival times by now?

Big Apple Moving - The best (09/12/2006)
I was referred to Big Apple Moving & Storage by a friend of mine who works for the company. I received an estimate from Joe (the owner of the company) for 6 hours including travel time. My job came to 7 hours but you should have seen those guys work (I am a musician so I had lots of equipment) the guys were friendly and actually seemed happy moving all my large, heavy boxes. I had a crew of 5 men and I definitely need them with all our stuff my wife alone had most of the truck with her clothes and shoes we also have 2 girls with just as much stuff as there mother. Big Apple Moving was great and I will recommend them to everyone that I know. The least that I can do for these guys and this company is provide an excellent rating. Well done Jose, Luis, James, Bobby and Mo it was a pleasure doing business with you all and Big Apple Moving.

Upstairs Downstairs Movers are AWFUL!!!! Flatrate had to bail me out... (08/31/2006)
I chose Upstairs Downstairs Movers and scheduled my move a month in advance for Thurs. Aug 24. The Monday before my move I called because I hadn't heard from them – needed to arrival time and what not - the extremely RUDE & UNHELPFUL receptionist said my move was scheduled for Wed. Aug.23 after explaining that that was incorrect she told me that they were booked through the month but the owner will call me by 9:00 am Tuesday. I received no call back. I frantically called Flatrate movers who luckily had a Sat. slot AND they were $200.00 cheaper. Flatrate was a pleasure to deal with; the crew was on time, fast, efficient, and courteous. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FLATRATE MOVERS!

Beware of Eagle Van Lines (08/24/2006)
Don't use Eagle Van Lines! They gave me a mid-range estimate to move from NYC to AZ and seemed to have good references. However, after they loaded all of my stuff onto the van they claimed that the volume was much higher than orginally estimated (even though I was given an estimate based on weight). They ended up charging $1000.00 over the orginal estimate. When I contested the difference I was told that the only way to dispute the difference was to have the load weighed and pay per pound, but that it would weigh more than both the in-home estimate and the increased price because the original estimate did not take into account my books or my couch (both of which I told the estimator would be part of the move). Don't trust these guys. They are just another moving company out to make extra cash by putting the squeeze on customers when they are vulnerable.

Thanks to Divine (3/2/2005) (08/24/2006)
the move was fast, the price was fair, the working team was great, the sales person steve gave us first class service from point to point, I will recommend to others on any given day,

The best move I ever had (11/23/2004) (08/24/2006)
I moved on 11/14/04 with Big Apple Moving & Storage a Brooklyn based mover and I must say that they were the best. The guys came in and did a walk through my apartment and promptly started packing and moving boxes. A job which could have taken at least 8 hours as estimated came in well under 6 hours. Thank you guys. Great Job. I will definitely refer Big Apple Moving & Storage to all my friends. Denese A

Terrible Move (3/21/2006) (08/24/2006)
I would not ever recommend All My Sons Moving & Storage of Westchester, Inc. I am very upset at what has transpired since using this company. My furniture and belongings were in storage with them for a year. The first delivery date was cancelled because their truck broke down. I was concerned that my furniture might get bounced around if they had to be towed. They reassured me my furniture would be safe. I then re-scheduled for October 31, 2005 and the movers called me around 12-1pm that they didn`t know where they were. I gave them directions and they finally got to my house at 4:00pm. As the movers brought in my furniture I noticed some pieces were damaged. They broke part of an antique mirror, lost a 22x22 piece of marble from an antique table that was my grandmothers, lost the legs of my couch, broke two legs of another antique table and part of the wood veneer off the front of a small table. I am also missing a wardrobe box, boxes containing cd`s, dvd`s and videotapes, china & silver pieces , portable cd player and several handknitted blankets. They brought in three items that were not mine, I refused to accept them. When they were just about done, one of the movers asked me about a tip and said he relied on that to supplement his salary. I thought this was extremely rude especially since I had already given one of the other men the tip for all of the movers. I was in contact with them on the day of the move about these issues and five months later I still have not gotten any satisfaction for my broken and missing items. I have obtained a lawyer.

Advanced Moving Systems (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
I contracted Advanced Moving Systems to move my belongings from New York to Austin, TX. Our initial conversation was on Aug 7, 2001. It was then I told Bill Davis, about my interest in a professional moving company. I listed, over the phone, what I had. It was a one-bedroom apartment. I had two bikes, a bed, a couch, a bookcase, a dresser, a large chair, and about 50 boxes. He quoted me $1200 for an estimated 270 CU FT. I also told him I needed the stuff delivered on Sept 7, 2001 and he said it was no problem. On Aug 28th they arrived and it turns out I had too much stuff -- about 500 CU FT total -- DOUBLING the quoted price. I told the driver in writing I needed my stuff delivered on Friday Sept 7, 2001. He said that was not a problem and the drivers would call me the day before to confirm a time. I called up the company on Sept 7th, and they tell me that it can`t be in Austin that day, because they need 7-10 days to deliver it. So I called them up on Sept 10, 2001, and a new story arose -- it`s 7-10 days from the desired delivery date. Mr Davis told me this and asked me repeatedly and loudly "What`s 7+10?" implying the latest date it would get here is Sept 17. On Sept 14, one week after arriving in Austin, I called them up and yet another story arose. Now it`s 7-10 BUSINESS days from the desired delivery date! That would put the delivery from Sept 18-21, 2001. I called again and they are now saying that Texas is considered WEST COAST and so it won`t be delivered until between Sept 24-26. Because of this late delivery we have had to purchase many things that we would otherwise not need to buy -- air matress, cookware, etc. they also have my computer with all my important documents and programs without which I can`t look for a job. So we are expected to be in Austin buying all these things we don`t need to, including clothes, not looking for jobs because we can`t print out our resumes or cover letters, for alomst three full weeks. Not to mention paying double what we were quoted.

New York`s Flatrate movers (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
FlatRate Moved me from NY to NJ late 2003 .. no scams, hidden charges, breakages or problems .. they gave a good price and stuck to it. (Even sent me a Christmas Card :) For me they deserve a perfect rating. I`d use them again. `

AAA Van lines moving company (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
I received several estimates for the move of my one br (very small) apartment from NY to FL. AAA Vanlines beat all competitors by at least 1,000 dollars (that should have been my first clue). But the lady I spoke with (Lorainne) said that they were having a "special to FL" and were giving me HALF price (3.45 per cubic foot) since htey needed all their trucks in FL to be reserviced. Well I bought it. They came to pick up my stuff at almost 8 o`clock at night and were there until 11:00 PM! I have a small son and his night was ruined. THe whole time they were loading my stuff they kept exclaiming about how much stuff I had! I couldn`t beleive they were saying that since I don`t even own any couches, bookcases or any appliances! After loading the trcuk (and locking it up) they hand me the bill - for nearly TWICE what they had quoted me. I argued and complained but there was nothing I could do. I called the company the next day and kept being transferred back to dispatch - he said the price on the bill was my price. I forwarded him letters from Lorraine stating that there would be no "long carry charge" (which they charged me for anyway) and that my rate was 3.45 a cubic foot (they ended up charging me 4.75) and he didn`t care at all. I am also quite positive that they lied about how much space it took up in the truck since the ENTIRE contents fit (with MUCH room to spare) in a tiny bedroom in my new house. I am so mad and frustrated and have no idea where to turn! Karen

Nationwide movers (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
I recently had the displeasure of dealing with Nationwide Relocation Services, which has earned the name Nationwide Loser Services to me, hired a company which was not a bunch of crooks like in some of the horror stories on here, but just very unprofessional. This company, Moving Unlimited, Inc. sent only 2 guys for a full family move. The pickup part was fine, and we did receive our stuff in 3 days, and the bill was not significantly higher than the original estimate. So what is our complaint? Well, when they showed up to unload us, the driver demanded payment upfront, and as soon as he got it, and as fast as they could take our stuff from their truck to the garage, he took off, leaving one man to finish the job. This man was in pain from a toothache, and needed to see the dentist. Thus, the work wasn``t getting done, and our stuff was sitting in the freezing garage. Since the driver took off, allegedly to do some "time-critical paperwork and phone calls" and things of that nature, meaning he didn``t want to bother with the real work, it was either we move our stuff in, or there it sits, because it wasn``t getting done. So we did. Now, I tried to contact the broker immediately about this so that our bill could be reduced for the work that we did (why should we pay for work the movers didn``t do?) and for a damage claim to 2 items. Nationwide ignored our repeated calls and even a certified letter, leaving me with no choice but to file a dispute with the credit card company. The amount isadmittedly small, but it``s the principle here that I don``t feel we should pay for service that wasn``t rendered. And what``s worse in my view is the fact that Nationwide will totally ignore and stonewall you if you have a problem. They are VERY nice to you before you sign and happy to return your calls and answer your concerns, but once they get their money, if you have any problems they don``t want to hear from you. This is not the sort of company that anyone should do business with. I``m of the same mind as you are; get a U-Haul and do it yourself, and that``s what we are going to do for our next move.

O`Briens Moving and Storage (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
New York Movers O` briens picked up our furniture and has been storing it for the last 4 months, with the understanding that we would call when we had settled in to a new area. We called them several weeks ago and let them know that we would need our furniture delivered on Nov. 10. We received and signed the necessary paperwork shortly after that, advising that loading would begin 11-2 and we would receive our furniture 11-10th, 11th or 12th. These dates were fine, as we would be leaving for Florida for 2 weeks on the following Friday, 11-17. On the 9th of November I called to check on the time and was told that the furniture was still in New York and had not been loaded as of yet. In speaking with O`Briens we were told that our contract for this was with Bekins LLC, and we should contact them with any questions. I did this and expressed my disappointment that I was not even called and told that there was a problem. I was treated to a representative that could care less about my problem. She was rude, condescending and ill informed as to the status of my load, and argued that it was not her job to notify me of anything. I asked for her supervisor, she was not available. I asked for her supervisor`s supervisor, out on vacation. I asked for anyone in charge, no one could help. Today, 11-13 I received a call to tell me that my overflow goods would be coming at a later date. What overflow goods? Oh there was other furniture on the truck prior to yours, so they couldn`t fit it all on. The fact that we would not be here for that load meant nothing to her. The fact that we haven`t received our first load meant nothing. The fact that all of our stored belongings and clothes were not here meant nothing. The fact that if it arrives after the 17th, which I was told is a real possibility, that I would be gone for 2 weeks meant nothing to her. Perhaps I could speak to a supervisor, I asked. Not available. The supervisor`s supervisor? Still on vacation. I asked about compensation for the delay. "Well if you need toilet paper or something, make sure you save the receipt". What about the $125 a day that we were told about. "That doesn`t apply to you". Well, as I sit here in my empty house (except for my air mattress and laptop, I can assure you that I am disgusted with Bekins. I have been in business for years and am appalled at this company`s lack of concern for their customers as well as their poorly trained representatives.

Bekins (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
On September 15, 2003, my husband and I used Bekins Moving to move from Long Island, New York to Nevada. Howard, the driver, assured us that our possessions would be in good hands. He was overtly friendly and asked me several times to sit in his truck, but I refused. On October 9, 2003, the furniture finally arrived in Reno. We had been sleeping on an air mattress on the floor of the house for weeks. Howard was again overtly friendly and asked my husband to sit in the cab with him. He talked my husband into signing the Customer Service Report before all of our possessions were unloaded. When two of our mattresses were unloaded, they were water soaked and heavily soiled due to a leak in Bekins` truck. Howard claimed they were damamged due to a rainstorm he experienced on the way to Nevada. He said it would be "fine" if we accepted the mattresses and that we should put in a claim for them as well as the other damaged items we received and he would "vouch for us". Then he immediately drove away before we could add an addendum to the Customer Service Report. We waited patiently for our furnishings and now we had to sleep on an air mattress once again. We placed a claim to Bekins on October 24, 2003 and was denied everything except $50. We had expensive, top quality BeautyRest mattresses that cannot be replaced for $50. We called Howard to complain and he said, "Don`t worry, I wouldn`t leave you high and dry. I`ll go to bat for you. Bekins` truck leaks and they will cover it. I`ll speak with Jeffery tomorrow." I just received a call from Howard today (Dec. 23) and he said that there`s nothing he can do for us since my husband signed the papers stating that all the furniture was in good condition. How`s that for sleazy?

Bekins-Moving company (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
I contacted the company for a long distance move from New New York came to my apartment to give me an estimate. He was very nice and I thought the price was somewhat reasonable, and he said I would have my things in Florida within 10 days of the pickup. So I agreed. The first thing that went wrong was that I could not get the company to commit to a date that they would pick up my things. And I had to force them to come on a specific day. The movers came in and were quick and even wrapped a few things for me. My things took longer then the 10 days to arrive. It was actually 18 days later that my stuff came and the items that had been wrapped were broken. I had two glass lamps shattered and one large ceramic pot broken. PLUS they lost two boxes that contained a small table top waterfall and a VCR. Estimated loss was around $1,000. Plus I didn`t have a bed to sleep on so for three weeks I had to stay in an apartment with no furniture and sleep on an air mattress! And when I called to complain about my stuff being late the operator was rude and said things like because I didn`t have a lot of stuff they were moving (under 1000 pounds) they would just have to "get to it when they could". I was outraged. ONce the mover did show up, he was very unproffesional. His wife and baby wre in the truck with him and it was only him unloading two couches, bed, dresser...he was struggling and looked like he was just throwing stuff around. Oh and when he opened up the truck my $3,000 couch was ON ITS SIDE! My $250 bike was also bent. And he would not unload the truck until he was paid with a money order. I had to pay him...I just wanted a bed to sleep in! AT this point I was so grouchy form not getting any sleep, I didn`t care. But later after I noticed the broken and missing items I tried contacting corporate offices who said they would put an agent to "work on it". After months of calling and getting a total run around I get this pathethic letter in the mail apologizing, saying "in the future we will try to make sure this doen`t happen."

Lets keep them honest (7/24/2004) (08/24/2006)
THere is a great program that not only stops online fraud but you can post a URL for a company such as a moving company and if enough people submit reports, the URL gets added to the database. When someone with the program updates the software and tries to go to the website that was reported as bad, a message pops up stating the site may be of a fraudulent nature. check out www.inspectorbrown.com

UM Movers - very rude and unprofessional (2/23/2005) (08/24/2006)
I`ve moved several times, and have never come across such rude and obnoxious movers. They kept saying the elevator was busy, when it wasn`t, to get more time. They damaged furniture, and shouted at us! They said they don`t trust customers. They refused to unpack the television that they packed for us. One of the guys was drunk The moving company offered to refund money, and then backed out. Horrible, scary experience - stay away!

Father and Son Moving & Storage of New York, Inc. (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
My parents hired Father and Son Moving & Storage of New York, Inc. on April 8, 2003 for a move. The unbinding estimate cost was $1,100. The hourly rate was quoted at $134 for nine hours of move time. There was no mention of an overtime rate. When the lead mover came in for payment it came to $2,880. That`s more then 150% more then the quote! Then the movers stated that they are going to keep, and hold hostage, the remainder of what was in the truck until the balance was paid. The head mover explained that the estimator always underestimates the prices for the moving jobs and they often hold people`s things ransom. The driver said that there is $1,300.00 minimum to do a moving job. My parents were never given a "Right to Responsibility" brochure nor an "Order for Service." When I contacted the company I spoke to Karen Hart, the office manager to explain that I don`t want to file a complaint with the DOT. She told me to file the complaint and that my parent`s things were not going to be released until the inflated balance was paid in full. In addition, when my father signed the spot for the job total time, he anticipated that the movers had an hour to complete the move. When my folks didn`t come up with the inflated cost in cash, the movers stopped working an hour before the said time on the bill of lading, of which I do not believe my parents should have to pay for.

Lehigh Movers (7/28/2005) (08/24/2006)
Do not use them! They were supposed to show up at 1 om on a Friday and by the time they were 5 hours late and had given three excuses (truck had a flat, truck had minor engine troubles, bad traffic) they finally cancelled on me at 6 pm. They told me to call another company in the yellow pages and have them do it. Of course, companies quoted me four to five times the amount for my move since I was asking them to come over immediately. Lehigh managed to come thru and sent two movers instead of three. I ended up moving boxes myself b/c it would not have gotten done until dawn otherwise. Once they got me to my new apartment at midnight one of them held my things hostage because he said I promised dispatch to tip each guy 250 dollars. I only got them to continue working when I got dispatch on the phone and they agreed to pay the difference. When I called to make a complaint the following week I was told to "quit naggin" and then antoher person promised me a refund which I never received. When I spoek with him today (his name is Isaac) he said he made that promise based on "partial information" so he was taking it back. Obviously, these movers are crooks.

Shipping to Australia good moving experience ny international shipping (10/31/2005) (08/24/2006)
Dear All! I read your reviews below and wanted to add that I have just received the items that NY international shipping shipped for me. As you know Moving is not an easy task and I can tell from some of the reviews a horrible experience. I had a great experience with NY international shipping. I received close attention and was involved with all the details such as sailings time etc., Honestly, i kept on waiting for a "problem", however, I can only say that if there`s a perfect move, this was the one. I highly recommend NY international shipping for any moving requirements, they even called me upon my arrival to make sure all is running very smooth and just they way I expected. Their web addrress is www.nyshipping.com and i highly suggest to call them for nay type of move. May I add to ask for David Mazafi 212-29-2255 who`s experience is unmatched!!!!- Keep up the excellent moving work.

great site (5/14/2004) (08/24/2006)
I moved with flatrate movers and it eas the best

Horrible Experience from Fasttran Movers (8/7/2005) (08/24/2006)
From my 30 years of experience, this is by far the worst experience I have ever done business with a company. Not to mentioned that I have moved several times within the city and between states and this company is absolutely the worst company ( Fasttran Moving CA PUC# :T-189665 / ICC MC# :511436 ) I have ever used. It all began when I called to schedule a move from San Francisco to New York. I schedule a move on Friday Afternoon at 2:30pm. So I packed everything and just waited for them to come. I waited and waited and waited and I looked at my watch, its already 6:30pm. I figure something must be wrong and so I called them back at their office and ask what happen. They said they don’t know and asked me to be patient and keep waiting. I told them I have waited for a long time and they are already 4 hours late but the person on the other just insist on me to be patient. OK, so I just keep waiting at home until 7:30pm and I called them again. This time he told me that the movers got delay from the previous job. Instead of apologizing to me, he yelled back at me!!! And said I should have expected this because I schedule it in the afternoon. He told me I should have schedule it in the morning to be sure that its on time. This is ridiculous, if they knew that they weren’t going to be on tine, why did they bother scheduling it. And also I would have expected them to be late, but I didn’t expect them not to show up at all. At this point I asked if I could schedule for tomorrow, he said tomorrow is booked up and the next schedule is 4 days later. They also said they don’t want to place us into tomorrow’s schedule because they want to keep their promises and not to make their customers angry. I told them that we are your customers too!!!! So without a choice, we were re-schedule 4 days later in a morning, to be sure they will show up. This time they came, took everything and packed my TV and Sofa. While they were packing the sofa, they didn’t put enough paddings at the edges of the sofa. So I asked if they could put more padding, but they refuse to do it and they snap back at me saying they have been in these business for so long, and they know much more than me….... Well for sure they were really rude!!! but I just put up with it for now. So the furniture were moved and the truck left for New York. The moving company told me it will take 2 to 3 weeks. So I flew to NY and keeping waiting. Its been 6 weeks and my things still hasn’t arrive. I called the movers in California, they said there’s nothing they can do and just ask me to be patient. Again I have to be patient. A few days later, at 2:00 am in the morning, I receive a call out of the blue and it’s the driver of the moving truck. They said they want to deliver it right now. I told them its impossible because its 2 in the morning and I am sleeping, even my building management would not allow me to do this. I asked it can be deliver tomorrow. They snap back at me right away and threatened me if they don’t unload now, they will take all my boxes and furniture and return back to California. I was quite shocked to hear that but it sounded like they were serious about it. Again, I had no choice but to say yes. Then came the incredibly ridiculous claim. They said their truck could not cross the bridge into Manhattan and would have to rent another truck from Uhaul to enter into Manhattan at 2:00 am. They asked me to pay $100 extra for this. I was again shocked to hear this and I asked if this is necessary and also said we have agreed on a price for this in the beginning. I was so mad and I called the 24 hour hotline and talked the Fasttran reps. I talked to them and they said its not their problem and asked me to deal with the drivers in New York. Then they immediately hang me up. I tried calling them back again and for the first time ever, no one picked up the phone. Obviously all they wanted is for me to pay $100 extra. So I really have no choice but to call the drivers to proceed. At 3:00am the drivers came, but what really surprised me is that they didn’t come in a Uhaul truck. Instead, they came to my apartment with an ordinary moving truck that has a California License Plate. They then came up to me and asked me to pay them all the money first, including the $100 extra, before unloading my furniture. I asked them to show me proof of them renting a truck, and obviously they refused to show me. I know at this time I have been cheated…..badly as well!!! So I immediately called the 24 hour hotline again to complain about this and no one picked up they phone….not surprise though. At this point, I have obviously been pushed to a corner, to pay up or simply risk losing all my furniture. Well, I just didn’t want to fuzz about it no more, especially at 3:00am in the morning and I already have to violate the building rule for moving furniture in after hours. I just proceed to pay the rest of the money that I owe, including the extra $100 for the B.S. excuse they have. They collected the money, counted them and then demanded me to pay them Tips upfront. I was so furious!!!!! They haven’t done anything yet and they are already demanding tips. This time I refuse to pay and yelled back at them if they don’t move right away, I won’t pay a cent for tip. They finally proceed moving. They moved the furniture up to my place but was really sloppy work. When I unwrapped the sofa, I realized a really big scratch at the corner of the sofa. I was so mad and I showed it to them and told them why they didn’t put more padding as I have demanded. They have completely wracked my Italian made sofa but they refuse to take the blame. They keep saying that it was already there before it was wrapped. At this point I really had it. I told them to leave right away and I totally refuse to pay them any tip at all. I apologized for writing such a long message here but I would really NOT recommend ANYONE to use FastTran Moving CA PUC# :T-189665 / ICC MC# :511436 at all. They have such terrible service, credit and attitude. They also cheated me money and even demanded me to pay tip upfront and have wracked my sofa. How ridiculous can this get. Fasttran has offices in the Bay Area ( San Francisco, San Jose), Los Angeles and Brooklyn. My bad experience could happen to all of you too.

I used this company 2 weeks ago and they were great. I live in west islip and did a move to westchester. i have a 1 bedromm apt and it only cost me1,100.00. They were very nice to me and placed everything where i wanted it. I was very happy to see that the owner was one of the workers. They explained all of the charges to me before the moving day. I would use this company again AAAA.

Move from Queens to NJ (3/9/2005) (08/24/2006)
I recently moved with Flat Rate Moving and just wanted to let everyone know what a wonderful company it is. Unbelievably efficient and Orgaized. Incredibly careful and resspectful not only of our personal belongings and furniture but also of our new house. They worked non-stop all day without a complaint and in fact with smiles and good cheer. The foreman was so spectacular in attitde and professionalism that I am speechless. Flat Rate movers has my eternal gratitude for a safe, sane and affordable move.

Nice job fellas (3/8/2005) (08/24/2006)
I thought since I read about the company on this site and then ended up using them, that it would be nice to let you all know about my move to CA. I saw the reveiw for Luxury Moving a week or so ago and thought I`d give them a try. I have to say, I`m glad I did. They were so nice and helpful. They walked me through it just like the person said in the review and made it so easy for me. It took a couple minutes of my time to fill out the inventory list they make you fill out, but this is only so they can get you a real price. Not a quote like all the other companies do. and that was the price i paid. no hidden costs, no hassles. I recommened them to anyone considering a move. thanks guys.

All My Son`s Moving & Storage (12/10/2005) (08/24/2006)
This moving company out of Westchester was horrid. The movers were very unprofessional and I felt unsafe leaving my things in their care. After I was all moved in and started unpacking and was able to observe all my stuff. I learned that my dresser leg was broken as well as a corner on my bed. I`m also missing a hat box that contained some DVDs and CDs. Finally come to find out they had not attached all my screws to my bed and I had to go to a hardware store and find some make shift screws which are not a secure fit on my bed. They asked me to fill out a rating sheet on the spot and I was afraid to give my real opinion. I was overcharged by $350 dollars but you are kinda held hostage. I would never ever use this company again!!!

Flat Rate Movers (5/22/2005) (08/24/2006)
I used Flat Rate Movers a week ago, & they were amazing. They were friendly, professional, & cheap. They were really fast, & very careful with my belongings! I highly recommend these guys. I`m using their storage, & they catalogued each object, keeping it wrapped & padded until my second move. I had dreaded the moving experience, & it honestly was pretty easy with them.

Upstairs Downstairs Movers (3/31/2005) (08/24/2006)
This crew of five moved us from our apartment in Manhattan to anotther apartment 30 blocks away. They broke nothing, they moved us quickly, and they re-wrapped many of my self-packed boxes that didn`t look strong enough to them, without charging us. They took every shelf off the wall, disassembled our beds, including my kids` bunks, and reassembled them in our new apartment. They took stuff to our storage area. The owner, Vincent McDade, even advised me on how to pack my china and other breakables, once he realized we were doing the packing ourselves. He and his team of men were nice, respectful , honest guys, and he gave us a binding estimate that did not change. We highly recommend Upstairs Downstairs Movers and their owner for anybody who is skittish about moving. This company was a relief to find.

Moving to UK (7/28/2005) (08/24/2006)
Happy moving experience. Just finished a month long process with NY International shipping out fo NY to London UK. Our moving experience was fantastic. The rate was very competitive, and David who took care of me from beginning to end was right on the mark with the volume evaluation and with the cost. The movers did a great job. We moved several times using different companies and I have to admit, they did a great job. If anyone wants to move, I highly recommend NY International for the relocation but make sure that you speak to David Mazafi who was by our side with any question we had a round the clock, no matter how simple or complicated the question we had. If he did not have an immediate answer, ge researched, used his connections and in no time we had a professional advice for no extra cost. Now that`s service!!!! You can reach him at www.nyshipping.com 212 249-2255 and also if you live in Manhattan, go there, they have nice an impressive showroom..it will give you an idea of what to expect with quality of materials and hands on experience. PS- on the move date he showd up to make sure everything was perfect and to our full satisfaction!! Good luck Arnold Brookman

Father & Son Moving (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
Ilona of Brooklyn NY I read their ad in the yellow pages and it sounded like they took very good care of your furniture, plus you didn`t have to empty the dresser drawers, etc. Bruce quoted me a price of $94 an hour for three men. He never suggested to come to look at what I had to move or give me an estimate. He never mentioned "overtime." He just told me that we will sign a contract when the movers come. I hired them. The morning they came, the contract stated that after 8 hours, it was considered overtime, at $148 per hour (which upset me when I found out the price). I also told him I needed a little help in packing (I had approximately 97% of my stuff packed -- I wanted them to do the little that was left). They began the job at 8:30 a.m. and seemed to be working ok. They removed all my packed cartons to their truck and later began to wrap and tie up my furniture to protect it. I did not get out of my apartment till approximately 4:30 and they did not start unpacking at my new place (which is only 5 blocks away) until approximately 5:00 p.m. The job was finished a little before midnight (with me doing a lot of the work and becoming thoroughly exhausted). The contract states you have to pay them in cash, and when I saw how long the job was taking, I had to go to the bank at 9:00 to get more money out. By the time they finished, they have a chart with calculations on it and their calculations came to $2113 (which I never at all expected to pay to move 5 blocks). I paid and then I gave the head person (Andy) $60 as a tip. He took the money and began a speech about how they worked 15 hours and this was not an acceptable tip. I told him I didn`t expect to pay so much for this move and I didn`t have much cash left. He became insistent and didn`t seem to want to leave, and I was totally exhausted, so I took another $80 out of my pocket (all I had) and gave it to him. He still wasn`t satisfied. I went inside and told my boyfriend (who moved with me) and we both didn`t know what to do, so he gave him another $80. He still wasn`t satisfied. I asked him how much tip people give him and he said over $100 a person. I told him that`s all I have and he finally left. I called the manager, Bruce, the next morning, and he told me that the movers aren`t supposed to do that, and that he would get back to me. Of course, he never did. I know I won`t get any money back -- but this will be another complaint against this company for people to read and know to be very careful about who you choose to move your furniture. I know it was my mistake not to check out your website and to compare prices, and it is too late now for that. That is a lesson I learned and I paid for it.

Exceptional Service! LuxuryMoving.com (2/1/2005) (08/24/2006)
These guys did all the work. It was beautiful. They contacted me after I sent them an email via their site. The salesman explained that they were not a moving company but a Moving Consultant and proceeded to explain how his company worked. let me tell you. They gave me a FLAT PRICE, Not a quote once he received my inventory list (which was kinda big, but very accurate) He made all the phone calls, kept me up to date if I had any questions. The price they gave me was higher than the rediculous quotes I received from the actual moving companies, but it was fair. And the bonus was that they have built relationships with notable and reliable moving services to ensure a great job. No hidden fees, no nothing. AND THEIR SERVICE IS FREE TO YOU!! Just like a travel agent. It was a lot of stress off my back and everyting went smooth. I have recommended them to everyone who mentions they are moving. Thank you guys.

Flat Rate Movers ROCK! (1/28/2005) (08/24/2006)
We moved yesterday with Flat Rate movers. We actually started looking for a company kind of last minute and moved from one borough (Manhattan) to another (Bronx) and ran into some problems getting the couch out of the first apartment. The three person team was so nice, efficient and professional. They took the door down and got the couch out and did an amazing job. The price remained the same and there were no other problems. I`d recommend FlatRate to my friends, family, and most certainly will use them again myself!!

Great Service!!! 5 Stats (9/3/2004) (08/24/2006)
thanks for other users help I choose a good company, I used Divine Movers as a last option to move I was about to use a different company (cheaper one) but two days before my move after reading nightmare stories I changed my mind and called Divine Moving, beside them I spoke to 2 other good companies but they were already booked since it was less than 2 days... you can reach them at http://www.divinemoving.com

Lazy movers (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
I moved a 1 bedroom appartment within New York City , total distance of 7 miles. The company was to charge me one way drive time since it was close and no freeway driving was involved and the quoted rate was $59/hr for providing 2 helpers with truck, moving wardrobes, blankets for furniture. They failed to provide an estimate stating company policy as excuse. They took 1hr. 45 minutes to load: Kingsize bed, 13 cardboard boxes, 4 suitcases, couch, mini sofa, entertainment centre, small dining table (no refrigerator, dresser, dining chairs, center table). The helpers were doing their job intentionally slow to charge more, were rude, made racist comments ("people from your country are greedy"). On complaining to the owner I was told that he was "busy and not to disturb him". It took us 20 minutes to reach the new location. Knowing that the helpers would do their job intentionally slow my wife, mother-in-law and me helped them in unloading. It took them 1 hr to unload besides us carrying 40% of the luggage. They stopped work repeatedly to make cell phone calls and to clean the truck inspite of us telling them to get on with the job. Finally, they billed us for 25 minutes etc. (total time 3hr 30 minutes) time between the time the last item was unloaded and when they came with the contract. And, threatened that if I didn`t pay them for 3 hrs and 30 minutes they would spoil my credit report and call the collection agency.

Accomplished Movers (8/7/2004) (08/24/2006)
I contracted with Accomplished Movers, after hearing about them on the internet, to move me from New York to Los Angeles. They gave me the lowest quote. I wanted to move on July 3rd. They said they could do it. They did not show up. Of course, they were never going to show up because they are a broker. The next day, July 4th, a Mayflower truck showed up and moved me out fine. I was given a window on my paperwork that said the stuff would be there by July 16th. This kept getting extended and extended and extended. I was told that the truck had broken down in Arizona. My stuff was finally delivered on I believe August 8th by Modern Movers. On that day I signed the papers they gave me one that said $1285 on it, the contracted amount for the move. But prior to that, I had agreed with Glenn M. over the phone that I should only pay $885, due to how long I had been put out. In November, my credit card was charged the extra $400 by Modern Moving. Modern Moving refuses to talk to me. I don`t know what to do. "I did not want to start my job until I had my things, so I lost at least a week`s wages. I slept on the floor for a month, and my shoulder has been screwed up ever since. I have numerous doctor visits for this. I had to eat out for every meal for a month. And I cannot tell you how many phone calls i have made over this matter. It sounds like Kevin is saying he signed a contact for $1285 and relied on an oral representation that he would pay $400 less. Bad move, Kev. Oral representations are meaningless and if the contract says $1285 you are probably stuck.

CarMovingGuide (5/4/2005) (08/24/2006)
This is an awesome site, full of actual content! I needed to get my 69 Olds shipped and didn`t know a thing about auto-shipping. This site brought me up to speed after reading their guide. The brokers replied with quotes and i just picked the cheapest one! worked like a charm!

Los Angeles Movers (5/3/2005) (08/24/2006)

ABF provided excellent service!!! (2/6/2004) (08/24/2006)
Here`s the note I emailed to ABF corporate offices: When we needed to move all our stuff across country - upstate NY to Oregon - we were nervous. We`d heard horrible stories about traditional movers, and their initial price quotes were way more than we could afford. The thought of driving a rental truck across country was equally bad given the weather conditions this time of year. After voicing these concerns to my Dad, he found a website that mentioned ABF`s Upack service. I went online, got the initial quote, got the reservation set with a phone representative and marked the calendar. When a snow storm hit the day the trailer was initially due, the Syracuse NY ABF dispatcher (Ken) worked with us to get everything changed to the following day. That day went without a problem - the trailer was right on time and clean. When we were done loading, a courteous driver came to get it. On the other end - Portland OR - the scheduler (Carrie) at the terminal worked to make the scheduled arrival work despite the approaching holidays. A very kind driver showed up on the set date and time, helped us by getting the trailer as close to the house as possible (despite traffic) and we unloaded without any problems. Then the trailer was picked up quickly after our call. By the way, our stuff was exactly as we`d packed it...not one bit of damage. OUTSTANDING! I would not normally write a note like this, but I was so impressed I wanted you all to know. At every turn your employees were courteous and helpful. Every promised schedule was met and the pricing was exact with NO surprises. If people are willing to load and unload themselves, I can`t imagine why in the world they would go to old-fashioned movers. Your service is fantastic and I will recommend it to everyone that tells me they have a big move coming up. Recommended Yes Punctuality: Showed up on time Ease of Filing Claim: N/A Lost Goods: No Amount Paid (US$): 2100

NYC to BARCELONA (4/7/2005) (08/24/2006)
We`re moving to Barcelona by the first days of August. We have very little furniture to carry. I would need a quote for a volume of 4 m3. Thanks, Iliana LUDZIK

DON`T USE SPEEDY MOVERS! (3/18/2006) (08/24/2006)
i chose Speedy Movers (780 Riverside Dr) b/c of their low price, $80/hr for a 3 man team w/ large truck. they came 25 min late with a fairly small truck. then, 1 guy stayed in the truck the ENTIRE move b/c they chose to park at a hydrant to be as close as possible. then the other 2 guys worked so slowly (with only 2 dollies, how lame is that??) that me and my super got fed up and started loading the elevator ourselves. we even ended up moving my couch! they were so slow that i told them not to wrap any of my furniture to save time. i also suggested that they rotate w/ the 3rd guy, so that one guy could rest while a fresh guy took his place. they refused. it took them 4 hrs to move from a 1BR to 4 blocks away; both blds had elevators, and i had packed up ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING into boxes beforehand. so choose a different company, please.
